Women’s Stories of Successful Aging
Kay Dilger Metcalfe: Written Reflections on Aging
“Several months ago, I fell . . .” (May 20, 2011)
With encouragement from Alice Schertle, a writer and friend from Plainfield, Kay revised the previous piece and reformatted it as a poem. It was published in the Plainfield Post on May 20, 2011. Through her writings over the years, Kay shares her experience of aging with the local community, creating a record of what this experience has meant to her.
Several months ago, I fell
From my Thinking Perch
To a place known lurking about.
It may be jolly good and
Maybe not.
The new ear phone
Performs as it pleases.
Life continues
In its significant ways.
Spring is rather odd too.
Who knows about summer.
To remember things is a real nuisance.
So, Old Age is busy now
Showing off its inordinate skills.
However,
I live with my lovely prospering daughter
and husband
Considerate and caring.
Nearby, Windsor Pond is graced
With a fine solar home
Built by architect son, Tris III
They are both handsome.
