Since its inception in 1961, the Plainfield Historical Society has dreamed of creating a historic district to highlight and preserve the many homes and structures with historical or architectural significance to Plainfield. Over the next half-century, in order to realize this dream, Plainfield Historical Society members took significant steps toward this vision, working diligently to create an inventory of all of the Town’s historic houses, buildings, and landscapes. They identified historically significant buildings within specific areas, gathered community support, established a local preservation ordinance, defined district boundaries, and conducted a thorough historical and architectural survey.
Finally, in 2011, this arduous process was completed, and the comprehensive inventory is now available to view on the MACRIS website.
